On Saturday, May 30th I ran the Got Grit 5k and Braedyn and Cooper signed up for the mile run and Jordan was in the toddler trot which was almost a 100 yard dash. It was at Orange High School. It was our first race day together! We had so much fun! We all brought home hardware!
It was first race I've ran that provided childcare! What a great idea!!
It was my first race in almost a year and a half because of health problems and almost one year post hysterectomy.
I had set goals for myself that were high considering my training runs I never really went under 8 minute miles. I had been doing a lot of cross training as well with a cross fit class to help with strength. My goal was to finish in top 3 for my age group and run under 23. I did have an unrealistic goal as well which was to run in 21 minutes...
The boys wanted to run the 5k but when I took Braedyn on a run with me his asthma kicked in after mile 2 so we decided to just do the mile for the boys.
Plus they've never really trained but I knew they could run a mile.
So it was a very hot humid day! I started up front on the line with the high school girls cross country team and felt if I can keep up with them, then I'm doing good. Well turned out I had more in me, so I left that pack. I pushed to the end until I felt I had no more and there was not a lot of people that had finished when I crossed the finish line so I figured I must have done well and I glanced over and saw my time as 22:33. I was very pleased with that time! Turns out the official time was 22:36. Overall finish was 39th out of 295! They said it was their biggest turn out. The money raised goes back to the school district for scholarships.
Then my mom brain kicked in and I had to go in and get the boys ready for their race and get them stretched and lined up. They lined up on the start at the front and took off. I had come to find out from the organizer a lot of the kids were from some of the local elementary school running clubs. Not my boys! They just follow mom on the trail on their bikes usually.
All of a sudden I see a bright orange shirt coming down the hill into the track and it was Braedyn in the lead and shortly after him here comes Cooper! They were 1 and 2! They both did so great! There was about 80 people in the race.
Proud momma ran to the sidelines to cheer them on. It was awesome! They each came across and hugged me. Cooper thought he was going to puke he said.
Braedyn came in at 7:10
and Cooper at 7:36!
Then Jordan ran his dash and came in first as well!
It was so great to see Braedyn beaming all day! He was so proud of himself and he told me he really liked it. I may have a future runner. He got the high! He also gained some confidence. Cooper's always stealing the show but today Braedyn did! Extremely Proud!
